U.S. Deeply Concerned by Sentence of Ethiopian Journalist

Press Statement

Jen Psaki
Department Spokesperson
Washington, DC
October 30, 2014

The United States is deeply concerned by the October 27 sentencing of Ethiopian journalist Temesgen Desalegn to three years in prison forU.S. Deeply Concerned by Sentence of Ethiopian Journalist “provocation and dissemination of inaccurate information.” Freedom of expression and freedom of the press are fundamental elements of a democratic society, and the promotion and protection of these rights and freedoms are basic responsibilities of democratic governments.

As President Obama stated during his meeting in September with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam, it is important that Ethiopia’s progress and positive example on economic development and regional conflict resolution extends to civil society as well. We urge Ethiopia to make similar progress with regard to respect for press freedom and the free flow of ideas and reiterate our call for the Ethiopian government to release journalists imprisoned for exercising their right to freedom of expression.

This is the continued lip service with a very commonly abused phrase” we are deeply concerned”. Both the tyrannical elites of Ethiopia and those who keep saying ‘deeply concerned” do know each other’s hide and seek game they play . This kind of very cynical phrase of “we are concerned” has become a very overused language for the last quarter of a century, but for nothing . I do not know how dancing with tyrannies on the one hand but making senseless statements after statements on the other hand can go together. The people of Ethiopia are not begging the big patterns of the ruthless ruling party to beg them on their behalf . What they are asking “those donor powers” is stop providing the tyrannical ruling elites with all the tools they need to prolong the very misery they have come across for two decades. No more and no less!

The ethnicist fascist Tigre people liberation front have never had a good time like this.with their backers throwing crocodile tears every now and then to appear genuinely concerned about human rights violations in EthiopIA, the fascist thugs are more brazen and reckless than ever before.

The truth of the matter is that talk about human rights has become nothing more than a political consumption for the illuminati who are using TPLF as their trojan horse for world domination. scramble for virgin Ethiopian land, the spread of disease like AIDS, Ebola, creating famine and making people dependent of aid, encouraging political dictatorship, repression etc are all part of the strategy.
that is the issue many people seem to have missed.

This is pure hypocrcitical lip service.
Unfortunately censorsdhip on free expression is practiced not only by the woyanes but also by some supposidely free websites in the diaspora.

The US false approach does not help the Ethiopians who are suffering because of tyrannical rule. Of course, except US political and ideological propaganda, the US system is also basically tyrannical. So, the leap-service is not a surprise to us, Ethiopians.

I agree with a number of folks here about Obama’s (Susan Rice’s) election cycle messaging. No, Ethiopian-Americans are just as sophisticated voters as any America. This is election time balony.

Obama basically does not like Africa. He is an African who was abandoned by his African father. When was the last time Obama ever put his money with his words? Nada!

Rice is an aggressive power seeker who tried to use Africa to become Secretary of State. It did not happen. She was to close to the king of repression and killing – Meles.

So, dear country men. We should not a rat about the manipulation of external forces and local agents.

We must shake up the Horn of Africa. We must speed up the overthrow of the Woyane Tigray tribal regime.

That will fix the geopolitical and inter-superpowers situation. The Ethiopian people and they alone are the makers of Ethiopian history. As soon as we overthrow TPLF US, UK. EU. and China will fix their standings vis a vis our freedom.

Judge US by what it does, not its empty statements which are a worth a dozen a dime.

If US chooses, they make TPLF release every prisoner of conscience. Ditto.

Does any body know why the US Department is dolling this statement now?

The democrats are against the wall, thanks to President Obama’s lack of decisiveness. His inability to make a decision as well as his record of breaking his promises have created the election debacle this coming November 4, 2014. The polls are showing either Republicans taking over the senate or will miss only one vote to be the majority in the senate. The republicans will of course keep their majority in the house and possibly picking up more seats.

President Obama and his friends are desperate. Really desperate. They keep sending me emails to chip in and help vote democrats in the senate. But I immediately delete it every time they send me their desperate emails. Obama, Hilary Clinton, Joe Biden, Michelle Obama, etc keeping sending emails to me. I keep deleting it. And you know why. The US and the UK are intimate friends of TPLF. This US statement is a lie designed to gather votes for the desperate democrats this coming November 4 on Tuesday.

President Obama wants to use us again. No way! He has used us two times already. And on top of that he has encouraged the TPLF thugs highly in public at the UN meeting with TPLF recently.

It is pay back time. Tell Obama and his friends, ” You can’t fool us anymore” Let the TPLF thugs come and vote for Obama. Period.

This call is a positive development for the release of imprisoned journalists back the old country. My hunch is this call is going to fall on dears ears just like many other calls in the past. On one end we have a country considered and has proven for more than two centuries to be the beacon of hope for the prosecuted. But on the other hand you have stubborn heads that are hell bent to accomplish what they had vowed to do when they were in the bushes. Some people may say like ‘Well they are very proud people and it is impossible to tell them what to do even though it is a noble idea’. Obbo Eskinder has been languishing in jail for what he said or wrote and many like him have been in the slammer because they said something the rulers just don’t like. But such irresponsible actions will only pour incendiaries on a tense environment. And that is what this goon in Asmara is looking for. He has been training runaways for years now and he will let them loose in all directions so they will pillage and kill when the time is right. That is the troubled water he has been hatching and salivating for. Then the Sebhats, Seyoums, Arkebes, Abays and others like them who may be contemplating a Plan B such as devolving Tigray into a new and separate republic can forget about it!!! Such plan, even thinking about it is abominable and will never work. One of their knuckle head zealots by the name Tekle was threatening all us a year or two ago on this or other websites with such measures. His words were like ‘Don’t push us too far’. What they may not know is they have to cough up every dime they stole and swallowed and answer for every disappeared dissident before they even try to do that. But in the meantime, they are doing harm to innocent individuals and let children of jailed journalists cry in vain asking for their fathers and mothers wail for their wrongfully incarcerated daughters just because they heard and read something they don’t like. I cry and wail with them. May Our Creator Save Our People!!!!

I am tired of #US and #UK lip services, they are the once who prop this regime and encourage murder and torture in Ethiopian soil. It is true we are weak now, it is true we are poor now, it is true #US and #UK are powerful now, but remember, all might did not save #US from humiliation in #Somalia, #Iraq, and the like. The only lasting solution is to stop hypocrisy and use your teeth to bite #TPLF not to giggle to our face and arm TPLF behind us.
